Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opposing team’s hoop or basket. The game is played on a rectangular court divided into two main sections, with a hoop elevated at each end. Points are scored by shooting the ball into the opponent’s basket, which is positioned 10 feet above the floor. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Basketball emphasizes skillful ball handling, shooting, passing, and defensive play. Players can advance the ball by dribbling (bouncing the ball while moving) or passing it to teammates. The game has a time limit and is generally divided into quarters or halves, with various regulations governing aspects such as fouls, violations, and substitutions.

Originating in the United States in the late 19th century, basketball has grown to become a globally popular sport, featured in both professional leagues and international competitions, including the Olympics. The sport fosters teamwork and strategic play, making it a dynamic and engaging activity for participants and spectators alike.
