Football

Football, also known as soccer in some countries, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net using any part of the body except the hands and arms (goalkeepers are exempt from this rule within their own penalty area). The game is played on a rectangular field known as a pitch, with goalposts at each end.

Football is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, which are maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). Matches are typically played in two halves of 45 minutes each, and the team that scores the most goals at the end of the match wins. If the game ends in a tie, depending on the competition, it may go to overtime or a penalty shootout.

Football is one of the most popular sports worldwide, with millions of players and fans. It is played at various levels, from amateur leagues to professional clubs and international competitions, including the FIFA World Cup, which is held every four years and is one of the most watched sporting events globally.
